LOWA Sportschuhe GmbH was founded in 1923 by Lorenz Wagner in Jetzendorf, Bavaria. What started as a small shoemaker’s workshop grew into a renowned manufacturer of mountaineering, hiking, and trekking boots. After the founder’s death, his son-in-law and former apprentice, Sepp Lederer, continued the business. In 1993, most shares were sold to the Italian Tecnica Group, while research and development remained in Germany.

Production takes place primarily in Jetzendorf and Slovakia. Today, LOWA produces more than three million pairs of boots annually, exports to around 80 countries, and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023—standing for German craftsmanship and global presence.
